Opening night: "Anti-Stars" Preview: Portraits of cultural renegades captured in Toronto

Toronto duo Viliam Hrubovcak and Jolie Fejerm (Photosynthesis) are known for photographing some of the world’s most iconic music stars including Billy Idol, Johnny Rotten and Bjork. On May 6th from 7 to 11 p.m. at the opening reception at Steam Whistle Brewing, the pair are unlocking the vault and presenting a collection of their best works in an interactive “Anti-Stars” preview. This photographic exhibit of stark but telling portraits will be erected in the Steam Whistle Gallery, for the month of May, in preparation for the release of the duo’s first high-gloss coffee table book “Anti-Stars.”

Anti-Stars” uncovers the unseen side of music and the individual philosophies of the industry’s most influential artists. The collection features portraits of: Ari-UP, Lee Perry, Bjork, “Johnny Rotten" Lydon, Debbie Harry, Buster Poindexter, Nick Cave, P J Harvey, Billy Idol, Dennis Hopper, Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, Lou Reed, Malcolm McLaren and more.

Spectators are invited to share their own experience with pieces on POSTITS which will be available at the opening reception. In addition, a pair of black sunglasses, an essential prop in many of the portraits, will be on display. Spectators are invited to pose with the specs for their own “Anti-Stars” snap.

Opening reception: May 6, 2015 7-11p.m.

Length of exhibit: May 9 to 31st (during brewery’s regular opening hours)
