Nite Comfort 21 - JAMES KNOTT DXPA PATRICK DUBS

This edition of Nite Comfort is a special year-end celebration of OCAD student works in music and media.

James Knott is an emerging Toronto artist currently studying Integrated Media at OCAD University. His practice combines animation, performance, audio art, and theatre to create immersive experiences for the viewer. Common themes and motifs include the visualization of sound synesthesia, anxiety, suburbia, inner dialogue/multiple selves, and identity.

He will be performing two pieces, interacting with projected pre-composed animation:

The Ninth Wave is inspired by the vivid images depicted in the second half of Kate Bush's 1985 record "Hounds of Love". It tells an epic narrative of the character being stranded at sea, falling asleep while waiting for rescue, having vivid dreams/hallucinations, then his/her journey from this world to the next.

And The Bed, depicting the events illustrated in the song The Bed by St. Vincent. It follows two children playing underneath their bed pretending to rid the space of monsters with their parents firearm.

OCAD students from the Digital Painting and Expanded Animation DXPA program will be showing their final work during this special screening. This event coincides with the 100th Annual OCAD Graduation Exhibition. http://goo.gl/AAZrKr

Patrick Dubs will be providing the interstitial soundtrack for the nite. He seems drawn to the darker sound but isn't afraid to experiment when it comes to music, drawing from many different styles and genres from his personal past. With years of experience as a club DJ and dabbling in production, Patrick has also been a staunch supporter of internet radio from the very early days - having produced shows on several small and larger webcast outfits.

Patrick hosts an eclectic radio show which spans across various different genres from minimal dnb, ambient, deep dubstep and even touches a bit on some experimental stuff as well. Catch him live every Sunday from 8-10pm EST via http://contrabandradio.com and you can also check out the shows archives here: http://www.contrabandradio.com/nwscshow

The wonderful and funny Dan Epstein, speaker of hard truths and soft lies, will host the night.
