Arsenal contemporary art, in collaboration with renowned international art collector Franois Odermatt, is proud to present NEXT, a group show of bold yet astute international contemporary artists whose average age is 30.

Franois Odermatt, the son of an art merchant, began collecting at the age of 25. His extensive contemporary art collection includes works by some of the most exciting artists of the 20th century such as Franz West, Donald Judd, Anselm Kieffer and Ugo Rondinone. In 2013, ArtAuction magazine listed Odermatt as one of the top 100 most influential art collectors in the world.

Although the international scene is controlled by the record sales and international museum exhibitions of established artists, a younger generation of artists is breaking into the scene and exploring the notion of what is contemporary art. The 19 international artists selected for this group exhibition are on average 30 years old and have positioned themselves in the contemporary art world as the next generation of international stars. Every artist partaking in this exhibition was personally selected by Franois Odermatt for their re-examination of the the artists process and courageous use of materials.

Franois Odermatt explained that its very exciting to be able to bring these young artists to Toronto. They produce stimulating works that are at the heart of what a lot of international collectors and museums are looking for these days. Each artist in the show is unique and compelling in their style, but when surrounded by the 26 works in the exhibition, viewers will see a commonality in their ingenuity and process-oriented approach. The materials selected by the artists are used instinctively and organically; left exposed, raw and true in the finished artworks.
