NEW Summer Sake Series with That's Life! Gourmet

Host of the popular Dumpling & Sake Fest and premium sake & wine importer That's Life! Gourmet is hosting a Summer Sake series with Toronto Common.

Learn the sake making process, different rices and regions, and try premium Japanese sakes with one of only 8 certified advanced sake specialists in Canada, Mariko Tajiri.

Trained at the Sake Education Council in Japan with a ASP (Advanced Sake Professional) certification, Mariko has held numerous tasting events across Canada and in Asia.

Each event will partner with a different restaurant, and different style of cuisine for $35 tax & tip included.

Our first event, August 5th is at Ryoji Ramen & Izakaya featuring a 3-course pairing:

Atsuage, Ryoji's house-made tofu, deep fried and served with green onions, chilies, and soy paired with Fukumitsuya Tradition Junmai from Kanazawa, Japan, a lightly aromatic sake with pear and lychee notes, served chilled.

Rafute, a refined version of an Okinawa classic, sous-vide pork belly in a sweet soy reduction served with a marinated ramen-style egg, lotus root puree, and house pickled vegetables paired with Kozaemon Tokubetsu Junmai from Gifu, Japan, with big notes of apple, liquorice and tropical fruits and crisp acidity served chilled.

Cured Salmon Sashimi, house cured salmon sashimi cubes served with fresh yuzu kosho jelly, salted wasabi pesto, and toasazu, light rice wine & dashi pickled vegetables paired with Oze Beisuika Junmai Ginjo from Gunma, Japan with notes of apple and white flowers served chilled with seafood or light dishes.

* Sakes will be served with each course in 2 oz pourings.

That's Life! Gourmet is committed to importing and representing fine wines and premium sakes.

They develop and nurture relationships with boutique, small volume producers based on quality products, and their commitment to ethical and sustainable farming practices.

With such a focus on quality, That's Life! Gourmet believes as much in education and sharing their knowledge and passion as they do on the logistics of importing.

Ryoji Ramen & Izakaya, established in January 2013 in Toronto, but with multiple locations in Okinawa Japan, is the only Okinawa-style Izakaya in Toronto.

With Okinawa's rich history and slightly different culture from the rest of Japan, Ryoji offers traditional and inventive cuisines and ramens reflective of the unique culture of Okinawa.

Staying true to the Ryoji family values of gratitude, passion, and awareness, Ryoji looks to evolve their menu with appreciation of their new surroundings and to continue to evolve the art of Japanese cuisine in Toronto.
