Su Sheedy has always had a great deal of interest in the preservation of our wetlands this is reflected in past painting series being titled; Marsh, Pond, Bog and Lichen. Her abstracts are a lush blend of wildflowers, vines, grasses and reeds with patches of water or even snow. Dappled light dances across the picture plain and gravity seems removed as vines and grasses weave in and out of the background. The paintings have a frenetic energy that is calmed and restrained by her use of natural beeswax and tree resin. The translucence of the beeswax and her dynamic colour range engage the viewer like the 3D atmosphere of a backlit aquarium.
