Morehshin Allahyari: Material Speculation

Opening Reception: Thursday, February 11 @ 6:00 – 9pm

Exhibition runs February 11 – March 19, 2016

Trinity Square Video is pleased to present, "Material Speculation," Morehshin Allahyari’s first solo exhibition in Canada. The exhibition is titled after her ambitious and widely anticipated series "Material Speculation: ISIS," which we will be showing for the first time in its completed form. Also on view is Allahyari’s collaborative video with Daniel Rourke, "The 3D Additivist Manifesto."

"Material Speculation: ISIS" is a digital fabrication and 3D printing project focused on the reconstruction of selected artifacts that were destroyed by ISIS in 2015. Inside the body of each 3D printed object lies a flash drive or memory card that contains the 3D printable files required to reproduce each sculpture, as well as images, maps, pdf files, and videos gathered in the last months on the artifacts and sites that were destroyed. These files will also be downloadable by visitors through a USB altar in the gallery.

"The 3D Additivist Manifesto" (by Morehshin Allahyari and Daniel Rourke with sound design by Andrea Young) is a call for radical approaches to 3D printing technology that blur the boundaries between art, engineering, science fiction, and digital aesthetics.
