On March 27th join striking workers of CUPE 3902 and CUPE 3903 in a historic march from York University to the University of Toronto.

Our demands for adequate compensation for the labour we perform are fair and legitimate. Graduate funding at UofT has not increased since 2008, the year of the last global economic crisis. At York University, teaching assistants and graduate assistants continue to put their bodies on the line to defend tuition indexation a hard fought measure to keep graduate studies affordable and accessible for future generations, the inclusion of LGTBQ equity language, and a funding increase for incoming graduate students. While tuition and cost-of-living in Toronto continue to skyrocket throwing students deeper and deeper into debt and despair, UofT reported a $200 million budget surplus last year and York, $400 million, with senior administrators at both institutions enjoying sizeable salary increases. They can more than afford our modest demands to make universities accessible to more than the wealthy elites. We are fighting for access to education that will provide fair learning and teaching conditions for us all. In sum, we are against the commodification of education and casualization of labour!

Over the past months, it's become very clear that the administration at UofT and York, along with the provincial government, are collaborating to divide our members, chip away at collective bargaining, and crush the strikes. In response, we are connecting our struggles into one very long picket line to deliver a collective message to our employers, and ultimately to a provincial government intent on carrying out its austerity agenda: We will strike to win!

In organizing together, we hope to inspire other academic workers in the sector to wage their fight for better working, living, and learning conditions! Join us on March 27th!
