Join us on a storytelling journey that explores the recent phenomenon of the Tibetan self-immolations culminating in the live creation of an original painting by Tashi Norbu. Accompanied by live musical performances by Buddhist Monks, Tibetan Opera Singers and including Improvised Piano.

Since the 1950's, Tibet has been occupied by the Chinese Communist Government. As a result, and right up to the present day, Tibetans have been suffering a cultural genocide. Over 150 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in a desparate attempt to get the world to listen. Yet, those cries are largely being ignored by mainstream media and little attention paid to them or even to human rights in general in Tibet by International leaders during trade talks with China.

#LightForFreedom aims to address the causes of the Tibetan self-immolations and honour the lives of those Tibetans that felt compelled to demonstrate their longing for freedom and self-determination in such a way.

#LightForFreedom is presented by Bureau Of Power And Light art collective, Students For A Free Tibet Canada, Tashi Estates, JC, Stories Of Ours and Tashi Norbu.
