LECTURE Unalone: The Life and Legacy of Bob Hunter

10 years after the death of Bob Hunter, many of the issues that captured his mind, body and spirit are still with us. Unfortunately. As the co-founder and first president of Greenpeace, his successes in helping to stop atmospheric nuclear testing, the butchering of the oceans’ whales and stemming the extinction of the harp seal, as well as his influence in journalism and eco-activism happened because of his passion and drive, dogged determination, and his unique mix of pragmatism and idealism.

In looking back at the ideas and concepts that formed the foundation of his life, we will consider uncomfortable questions and unnerving realities about the complicated relationships between reason and knowledge, rational and political discourse, ideal and action. The issues are still here and they will remain with us until we choose to wake up and take stock of our own complacency, egotism and irresponsibility.

Join us, because no one can do this on their own. Together we can embrace what Bob learned on the way back from Amchitka: we are utterly UNALONE.
