26 is pleased to present the work of June Pak.

the artist writes:

"When discussing the topic of ethnicity in visual arts, Im drawn to issues of visibility: being visibly different from others, presenting ones difference visibly to others, and representing what it means to be different visually. But what if that difference is invisible?

Im emphasizing the sense of invisibility in relation to the concept of ethnicity in the two works at 26: The Invisible Transformation Project and June on June. For The Invisible Transformation Project, I will be painting a wall in yellow on August 2 then painting it back to its original colour on August 16. In a script-based work June on June, the two Junes share a space of tension and comfort, without having to answer questions relating to their ethnic sense of belonging. I will be reenacting the evening scene from the script."

As part of the exhibition June Pak @ 26, there will be a group reading/discussion salon on August 9 at 3pm. This salon will feature excerpts from Rasheed Araeens A New Beginning: Beyond Postcolonial Cultural Theory and Identity Politics, as selected by June Pak. The discussion will be facilitated by cheyanne turions.
