Jeff LaRochelle and Origins Ensemble - CD Release at 80 Gladstone

During the month of November, 80 Gladstone will be hosting a 3-part jazz series featuring some of the brightest talents in Canada.

80 Gladstone is one of Toronto’s newest, most exciting and unique performance spaces. Located at the corner of Gladstone and Alma (just north of Queen), this versatile space hosts yoga classes by day, and concerts by night. The beautiful space seats about 50, including comfortable couches for informal lounging. A no-shoe environment, 80 Gladstone used to be a Portugese grocery store, but all that remains from it’s prior incarnation is the sign.

A little more about the artists…

Saxophonist/clarinetist and composer Jeff LaRochelle will be releasing his debut recording, "Moonstone", with his sextet Origins Ensemble at 80 Gladstone on November 22nd. The music features original compositions by Jeff that fuses composition and improvisation, featuring the combination of woodwinds and strings found in chamber music, along with the jazz-inspired saxophone trio format as its foundation. The compositions were written by LaRochelle over the last several years, aiming to bring together his various musical influences as well as non-musical influences such as literature, philosophy, nature, and his hometown of Moonstone, Ontario, after which the album is named. His group features some of his most frequent musical collaborators -- Aline Homzy on violin, Jessica Deutsch on viola, Sheba Thibideau on bassoon, Soren Nissen on bass, and Ian Wright on drums.
