Shirin is struggling to become an ideal Persian daughter, politically correct bisexual and hip young Brooklynite. But shes not quite Persian enough, not quite gay enough, not quite anything enough. She fails miserably in her attempt at all identities. After a toxic breakup with her girlfriend Maxine, Shirin Desiree Akhavan desperately throws herself into the dating scene in hopes of finding a man or woman able to bury her resentments. But with each bad date, she's forced to confront a host of real-world issues she previously ignored, including masking her bisexuality from her Iranian parents.
