Insects and Arachnids for Beginners

Location: High Park Nature Centre at the Forest School (375 Colborne Lodge Drive)

Dr. Emily Macleod, enthusiastic entomologist, will lead you through the fascinating world living just outside your doorstep. This workshop is designed for all levels of insect-appreciators to deepen their understanding of the micro world of insects. Starting indoors, Emily will teach you the bug basics. In the second half you will hike through the forests and fields of High Park to find insects in their natural habitats and learn more about their wonderfully secret lives.

You will learn:

- Amazing adaptations and life histories of bees & beetles, arachnids & ants and so many more

- Anatomy of insects and arachnids

- How to identify insects including the most common bees in Toronto

- How to observe insect behaviour

- How insects and arachnids fit into our urban ecology

- How to begin identifying insects to order

- Where and how to find local species of interest

- How to separate facts from myths
