Gamercamp
Gamercamp celebrates the artistry, history, and creativity behind the games that kept you up all night and well into the next day. Get inspired by fresh ideas from passionate, knowledgable speakers, an open demo stage for Toronto's best and up-and-coming, and an exhibition from Canada's first arcade museum.
We started Gamercamp out of an obsession for video games and a belief that the the journey to how games are made is as fun as the games themselves. For example, we dig retro games not only in a nostalgic sense but also how they are applicable to game development today. New classics like Shadow Complex and platforms like the iPhone are taking things back to priority one: smart, stream-lined design to produce addictive, can't-get-enough fun games.
So if you begged with tears to get an NES, thought quarters were the only coin worth keeping, or spent entire weekends sketching out side-scroller levels, join us for a day for the love of game.
Get your tickets online now, only $15. Or $20 at the door.
If you have any questions or inquiries, drop an email to mark@gamercamp.ca.

Toronto could be the home of an international laughing skills competition - potentially the Olympics of Laughter.
The Just for Laughs Festival is looking at a World Laughter Games event in Toronto, depending on the upcoming demonstration of the games this Saturday November 21.
Competitive laughter games will be demoed at this Saturdayâs screening of Laughology - a documentary about the contagiousness of laughter, featuring the man with the most contagious laugh on earth. Before the screening there will be demonstrations of the games. Champion laughers will compete and some audience members will be invited to compete on the spot.
Director of Laughology, Albert Nerenberg, got the game idea while traveling the world working on the documentary. The sudden rise in laughter exercise techniques have created new laughter games, which when exercised, improve health, fitness and mood.
âIt could be significant,â says Nerenberg. âNot only do laughter games promote health, immunity and good humor, theyâre funny, because laughter is contagious.â
Nerenberg demoed one of the games, the âLaugh Offâ at this yearâs Idea City and it brought down the house.
The âLaugh Offâ is a game where two contestants go head-to-head laughing at each other. The person who makes the other person seem funnier wins. âThis game can be quite extreme. People turn red, split their pants, and fall off the stage.â says current Canadian Champion Victoria Danyluk.
There are also individual competitions, like the âMost Contagious Laughâ â the person who gets the most laughs out of an audience simply by laughing. And the âEvil Villain Laughâ made famous by Hollywood star Mike Myers.
Laughter competitions are new and different from comedy competitions. There have been small laughter competitions in India and Thailand, but no one has tried to create an international competition, although one is certainly coming.
âThe Just for Laughs festival is interested in the event,â says Nerenberg. âBecause the idea is so new, they want to see how it will work.â

THE PARKDALE REVOLUTIONARY ORCHESTRA'S
'THE TORTURE MEMOS' CD Release Concert
ON THE BILL:
The Torture Memos + Cephalopodae Dance Suite + a special guest performance by Ronley Teper and Her Lipliners.
--------------
THE TORTURE MEMOS
The Parkdale Revolutionary Orchestra's musical treatment of the Torture Memos (the documents produced justify barbaric torture techniques that shocked the world when the US government made them public earlier this year) takes the most revealing elements of the text and lets them speak for themselves - from the finer points of waterboarding to why it's reasonable to commit torture in self defense.
By setting these documents to music the voice of their principal author, John Yoo, is transformed from a bureaucratic abstraction to a real presence. And what he has to say takes on new and unexpected meanings: from beneath the coldness of the original text layers of fear, anger, and deeply-buried remorse emerge. The banality of evil sings its heart out.
The "lyrics" and some audio from the recording are here: http://www.parkdalerevolutionaryorchestra.com/tm/torturememos.html
THE CEPHALOPODAE DANCE SUITE
a ballet about the spiritual development of squids
This deeply moving story follows the life of a squid: from its birth and infancy in the gentle currents of the deep, to its innocent joy in exploring the beauty of its environment, to the tragic moment when its squid sister is lured into the cruel tentacles of a cult and converted into a box of Captain Highliner battered calamari as a ritual sacrifice to Cthulhu - a heart-rending event that confronts the squid with the senseless injustice of existence and the necessity of finding meaning in its own squidividuality.

RONLEY TEPER AND HER LIPLINERS
Ronley Teper, a performance artist turned musician, has collaborated with the who's who of the Canadian independent music scene to produce a body of music that listeners constantly compare to Tom Waits and Mary Margaret O'Hara. Her new EP Ronley Teper's Lipliners grew out of twenty short musical monologues that were publicly workshopped during twenty improvised shows featuring a revolving door of some of Canada's finest musicians.
