Finnish Blood, Swedish Heart at Nordic Nights

Screening of Mika Ronkainen's documentary Finnish Blood, Swedish Heart in the Nordic Nights programme. Also in the programme two short films by Ryerson students from the School of Image Arts.

Synopsis: A father and son go on a road trip that turns into a musical journey into the emotional memory and history of Finnish immigration to Sweden; of shame, guilt, crime, alcoholism, and family secrets.

It is the personal story of Kai and Tauno, but also that of those 600,000 Finns who moved to Sweden in the 1960’s–1970’s as migrant workers escaping the huge unemployment in Finland.

Around 200,000 of them went back to Finland in the 1980s. Kai and Tauno were among those who returned and were again the outsiders looking in.

In Swedish and Finnish, subtitled in English, admission is free.
