Emergents alumnus Adam Scime curates our second installment of this seasons series Scime is a bassist and composer whose successes include the wildly popular Rob Ford: The Opera and compositions for the Esprit Orchestra and New Music Concerts As with our first Emergents this show sees both featured artists collaborate
Scimes curation brings together Toronto based composersound-artist Christopher Willes and the Montreal based Ensemble Paramirabo With a common desire to stretch boundaries and a universal thirst for like-minded collaboration Willes and Ensemble Paramirabo will present an innovative experimental program not to be missed
Christopher Willes presents a new 'concert-installation': Corrals In Corrals a large ensemble of musicians and resonating sculptural materials simultaneously perform a concert and an exhibition in a state of emergence In and through Corrals both audience and performers are invited to share a listening space where the organization of bodies both physical and aural are continually renewed
Christopher Willes studied music at the University of Toronto and is currently an MFA candidate at Bard College NY He makes music audio installationswalks and sound scores for theatre dance and film His work has previously been presented at our own X Avant Festival Recent collaborations include projects with Dancemakers 'Soft Matter' choreographers Andrea Spaziani and Julia Male and 'Small Wooden Shoe' among others
Ensemble Paramirabo named for a work by the late Montreal composer Claude Vivier is comprised of Jeffrey Stonehouse flute Franois Gagn clarinet Genevive Liboiron violin Viviana Gosselin cello and Gabrielle Gingras piano The Ensemble presents creative programming with a focus on new compositions that embrace collaborations with other artists and stretches the boundaries of the traditional concert experience Their program for this event will consist of world premieres by emerging composers and an arrangement of Frank Zappas Im the Slime & Fifty-Fifty by Symon Henry
The night culminates with a new piece written especially for the event by Willes for Ensemble Paramirabo
