Felicity Williams' unique approach to vocals and musical arrangements are widely respected among Torontos creative musicians, and shines through her curation of this evenings Emergents.
There is a beautiful resonance between Claire Harvie and Robin Dann's respective modes of communication. They share a sensibility for creating work that blends from one discipline into another, from the visual to the aural to the physical. Danns treatment of words and sounds, along with Harvies visual/photographic sense, flow out of their irrepressibly playful relationship to spatiality and feel. For Emergents II, they will collaborate with Montreal-based musician Phil Melanson percussion. Song and sound will work together with still and moving images to look at what we take or leave from our parents and guardians: gesture, imitation, and behaviour that subconsciously transfer through a turn of phrase or a way of lifting the arms while dancing.
Daniel Fortin is a Toronto-based bass player and composer. His empathy and sense of humour lead him into a wide range of musical environments, from traditional jazz to pop to contemporary improvised music. His self-titled quartet is preparing to release a new record in the winter of 2014. This concert will feature three quarters of the band, Michael Davidson vibraphone, David French tenor sax as well as Fortin, and take a more collective approach, with each of its members contributing new compositions for the ensemble.
