D-Beatstro: COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON ACCOUNTABILITY

A Discussion on Accountability, Take II

Accountability is a complicated topic. On Tuesday, April 28, let's take a few hours to talk about how we can take accountability for ourselves and within our community using a restorative justice framework. Some topics of conversation will be how to differentiate between personal issues and being called out, what role exclusion from a community plays in processes of accountability, how to become a facilitator in an accountability process, and how to deal with bands being booked in the community whose members' behaviour has been oppressive or abusive in the past. This discussion will be graciously hosted at d-beatstro 1292 Bloor St. W. at 6:30. It will last around three hours. If you have specific issues you'd like to see addressed during this discussion, or if there is anything you feel would assist in creating a safer space during this discussion, please email Lyss at totherootdiscussions@gmail.com.

a bit about lyss:

I have a degree in gender studies, and centre most of my academic work around non-binary gender, gender-based violence, disability, trauma and mental health. I have volunteered with various organizations interested in reducing violence and supporting victims of violence, and started To the Root discussions as a means of initiating conversations about reducing violence, oppression, and supporting folks who have been victims of violence and oppression. My dream is to be a crisis counselor and community outreach educator. I'm constantly learning.
