Chefs with Hart: Sundae Service II: Sweet Jesus x Momofuku

For one week, from May 28 to June 4, top Toronto chefs and foodies, Chef Jon from Sweet Jesus/La Carnita and Chef Hans from Momofuku partner to raise funds for the GIFT Program (Group for Improvement of Intestinal Function and Treatment) at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The specialty ice cream store will be featuring two signature flavors made by Chef Hans with $1.00 from each cone sold being donated to SickKids.

SickKids patient, Hartley and his family have created Chefs with Hart to give back to SickKids. This fiery little seven-year-old is featured throughout the ‘SickKids VS’ campaign, representing his fierce inner strength (see photo below).

Hartley has intestinal failure and spent the first 100 days of his life in the hospital. He has had more than a dozen surgeries since he began visiting SickKids. Hartley’s parents have become his full-time nurses since he left the hospital, providing him with IV medication and injections to thin his blood daily. The Bernier family will be present and Hartley will have a tattoo table again this year.

In addition to purchasing signature cones, customers will also have the option to skip the line by making a $50.00 donation throughout the week. This is a public event and provides a great way for families to get together and support a worthy cause.

The GIFT program provides lifesaving care for infants with intestinal failure. Dr. Paul Wales started the GIFT program at SickKids in November 2002, after realizing that advanced clinical care for intestinal failure was desperately needed. Before GIFT was developed, care for patients with intestinal failure was fragmented and often unsuccessful – the mortality rate ranged from 40 – 80 per cent.
