Ceol Kids is a unique charity event that brings together musicians of diverse musical styles and genres, including members of several prominent bands in the Toronto music scene. These include Joan Smith of Little Foot Long Foot, Christian D from Christian D and the Hangovers and Kat Burns of KASHKA, among others. Plus, following in the footsteps of last year’s surprise performance by Chris Murphy of Sloan, this year’s show will feature a special guest appearance by Colin MacDonald of The Trews.

What sets Ceol Kids apart from other shows is the completely original means by which the concert’s setlist is chosen. At the website http://www.ceolkids.com anyone can nominate any song for the setlist. But in order for a song to make it into the show it must generate enough PayPal donations to the Regent Park School of Music to place it in the top 25 grossing songs.

At 11:59PM on Friday May 1st those top 25 songs (whatever they may be) will become the official setlist of the 2015 Ceol Kids concert. Then, with only four weeks between the donation cut off and the show, the 30+ musicians that makeup the Ceol Kids band will set to learning a slate of songs that could include current contenders like Paradise By The Dashboard Light, Gotta Get Up, Let Your Backbone Slide and Black Betty.

Not only is this an entertaining and unique way to determine a setlist, it also goes towards a great cause. The Regent Park School of Music aims to make sure that as many kids as possible receive a music education by removing the financial obstacle.  This year, they are set to give 1,700 young people aged 3-18 a highly subsidized quality music education at their central hub in Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park and 7 other high-priority areas in Toronto.

The four previous Ceol Kids concerts have raised over $24,000 for the school, with $10,000 of that donated last year alone. With the move to the Mod Club, they are expecting this year to be even bigger and better than before. Don’t miss this one of a kind, one night only event!
