This summer, composer and pianist Robert Bruce brings Keaton’s classic silent films to life for a modern audience. Robert Bruce fuses historic and modern musical styles to create entirely original scores, while preserving the original movie-going experience of the silent film era.
Enjoy a selection of Keaton’s greatest films of the silent screen, including his 1926 film The General, often lauded as “the greatest comedy ever made.” Known for his acrobatic feats of physical comedy and his trademark deadpan expression, Buster Keaton’s films are comedic and cinematic masterpieces that remain as side-splitting today as they were nearly 90 years ago. See Keaton’s films as they were meant to be seen - accompanied by live music!
Since the late 1970s composer/pianist Robert Bruce has developed a diverse catalogue of original music that includes music for young children, a widely used piano repertoire for students, music for film, television and animation, piano works, ensemble and orchestral works, and visual art collaborations. He has performed hundreds of live shows with his original piano scores for silent films, most often the films of Buster Keaton but also including those of Harold Lloyd, Clara Bow and F.W. Murnau. What he loves most about Keaton’s films is Keaton’s incredible creative imagination and artistic skill.
