Beckett Trilogy: Not I / Footfalls / Rockaby

By Samuel Beckett

Directed by Walter Asmus

Performed by Lisa Dwan

CANADIAN PREMIERE

Oct 13 - Nov 1

The incomparable Lisa Dwan’s powerhouse performance of three of Samuel Beckett’s late works, directed by Beckett’s long-time collaborator Walter Asmus, played to sold-out houses at the Royal Court Theatre in 2014 then went on to tour throughout the UK and US, receiving rave reviews wherever it was presented. See this international stage sensation in its Canadian premiere at Canadian Stage.

In Not I, a disembodied female mouth floats eight feet above the stage, delivering a stream of consciousness monologue spoken, as Beckett directed, at the speed of thought.

Footfalls features May, a woman wrapped in tattered clothing, pacing back and forth like a metronome, on a strip of bare landing outside her dying mother’s room.

In Rockaby, a woman dressed in an evening gown sits in a chair that seems to rock of its own accord. Recounting moments from her past, she slowly withdraws from the world.
