Beam Up & United Soul: NYC Disco Legend John Morales

Beam Me Up & United Soul combine forces for a one night affair of classic disco, boogie & soul, with legendary New York deejay, producer & remixer John Morales at the helm.

Bronx-born Morales has been delivering that dance floor madness since the seventies, playing hallowed NYC haunts like Stardust Ballroom, Pippins, Bentleys, Limelight and the infamous Studio 54. A self-taught engineer, Morales was responsible for mixing a mass of disco classics, many of which are standards at the Beam Me Up parties; the likes of Inner Life, Carol Douglas, the Fantastic Aleems, Musique, Class Action, the Temptations and Rose Royce were all recipients of that Morales touch and should be familiar to the Beam Me Up regulars.

A prolific partnership with Cuban-born Sergio Munzibai, under the M M moniker, produced some of the top remixes of the 1980s, a list which includes over 650 mixes for the likes of Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Shalamar, Hall & Oates, Candi Staton, Billy Ocean & Rod Stewart. Morales & Muzibai parted ways toward the end of the decade, but John kept at it solo, well into the 1990s, before a self-imposed exile kept him away from the music for nearly ten years.

The modern era has seen Morales re-enter the funk-filled fold, with three compilations for UK label BBE and a new release of out-of-print 12-inch and unreleased Motown mixes responsible for opening the ears of an entirely new generation of boogie buffs and disco bon vivants.
