Alexander Pilis - Architecture Parallax: Through the Looking Glass

Koffler Gallery Summer Exhibition Opening Reception

Thursday, July 2, 2015 | 6 - 9 PM | FREE

Montreal-based Brazilian-Canadian artist Alexander Pilis develops a new architectural installation staging the white cube of the gallery as perception tool central to the experience of visual art. Playing with optical illusions, reflections and points of view, a series of theatrical boxes and viewfinders direct the viewer’s performance as both spectator and actor in the gesture of looking and seeing. Furthermore, a museological set-up orchestrates an exchange of ideas between a collection of perceptual objects and devices, and large-scale collage works on velum, facilitating the circulation of intersecting associations that address the history of optical discoveries connected to artistic innovation.
