Join us for the second annual Founder=E2=80=99s Lecture where we welcome wr=
iter and broadcaster Margaret Visser. The Founder=E2=80=99s Lecture is an a=
nnual, public event featuring an internationally recognized leading thinker=
 engaged with the convergence of culture, dress and society.

A leading commentator on history, anthropology and mythology in everyday li=
fe, Ms. Visser will look at the meanings embodied by modern footwear.

Her most recent book is The Gift of Thanks, published by HarperCollins. Her=
 previous books, Much Depends on Dinner, The Rituals of Dinner, The Way We =
Are, and The Geometry of Love, have all been best sellers and have won majo=
r international awards, including the Glenfiddich Award for Food book of th=
e Year in Britain in 1989, the International Association of Culinary Profes=
sionals' Literary Food Writing Award, and the Jane Grigson Award. Her books=
 have been translated into French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Port=
uguese. She appears frequently on radio and television, and has lectured ex=
tensively in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. She divides =
her time between Toronto, Paris, and South West France.

Attendees of a reception at the Bata Shoe Museum following the lecture will=
 have the opportunity to join Museum founder Sonja Bata in our newest exhib=
ition "Collected in the Field" before it opens to the public on November 14=
th.
