ie666=0A=0AGlasgow=E2=80=99s talent pool clearly runs deep, and if the city=
=E2=80=99s last few years of genre-busting electronic music have made anyth=
ing remotely clear it=E2=80=99s that Rustie is one of the deep-fried kingdo=
m=E2=80=99s crown jewels. Emerging with the rest of the multi-talented Numb=
ers crew, and with only a handful of laser-guided releases to his name, his=
presence far outreaches his focused, evolving discography. Rightly mention=
ed in the same breath with many of the most innovative producers in the wor=
ld, astute Pitchfork scribe Martin Clarke once described Rustie=E2=80=99s m=
usic =E2=80=9Clike a metaphor for living in intense digital excess=E2=80=9D=
=E2=80=93 something everyone should be able to relate to.=0A=0AAs is often=
the case, this digital excess also mirrors the excesses of the physical wo=
rld, and so Rustie time travels for the cocaine-addled synthesizer washes a=
nd searing guitar tones of 1980=E2=80=99s pop, the cash-infused bombast of =
new-millennium R&B, the pit-of-your-stomach ecstasy high of the most classi=
c rave memories and the bloodshot scowl of white-hot pirate radio broadcast=
s. In 2007, with a new generation of irreverent producers and artists seemi=
ngly simultaneously uploading their music to MySpace, Rustie=E2=80=99s Jagz=
The Smack EP was a miniature revelation. In a swift five tracks, it manage=
d to not only synthesize the tone of mid-decade electronic music, but also =
provided a danceable prediction for much of what would soon be called =E2=
=80=9CUK bass music=E2=80=9D (not to mention many other, far less eloquent,=
names).=0A=0AIt would take 3 more years to move through a string of now cl=
assic 12=E2=80=9Ds like =E2=80=9CZig-Zag=E2=80=9D, =E2=80=9CBad Science=E2=
=80=9D and =E2=80=9CPlay Doe/Tempered=E2=80=9D, his collaboration with Bris=
tol=E2=80=99s mighty Joker. This unfettered run was capped by a string of e=
ssential remixes (or =E2=80=9CResmacks=E2=80=9D in the parlance of Rustie) =
for the likes of Jamie Lidell, Kelis, The Big Pink and Nicki Minaj, leading=
into his debut EP for Warp, Sunburst. In another breathless five-track fla=
sh, Sunburst amalgamated Rustie=E2=80=99s love for obscure Japanese prog-ro=
ck, 16-bit video game sonics and icy grime and Detroit techno heft into a f=
leeting vision of the future of rave music. Snare rolls ricocheted, synths =
undulated in hypercolor hues and the bass bubbled over, the stage was set.=
=0A=0ANow heading on a rare North American Tour, this relentless innovator =
of hyper-melodic, Technicolor bass music touches down at Bassmentality for =
the very first time. If you've been living under a rock you MIGHT have miss=
ed his explosive rise to the top of the electronic underground, winning NME=
's Album of the Year, accolades from Wire, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and cou=
ntless others. If you didn't, we know where you'll be September 12th. =0A=
