DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Ok Everyone! IT'S OUR ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! Yay, first year of business! =
=0A=0ATo celebrate we're launching a new show being hosting by our favourit=
e place to be, The Mascot Cafe.=0A=0AThe new show is something a little dif=
ferent. ok maybe a lottle different. We're taking some of our favourite ima=
ges from the past year and ripping them up, moving around the pixels, putti=
ng them back together and presenting them to you in a new way. they're gett=
ing the ultimate remix. on top of that, since we had a great success last y=
ear with Peepshow and it's untraditional framing method, we're gonna do som=
ething weird again. we're making wall hangings. Printed on clothing fabric =
and then hung from curtain rods, these pieces are intented to reference tap=
estries, both literally, in the their presentation as wall hangings and the=
oretically, as an "intricate combination of things"=0A=0A=0AAbout the Work:=
=0A=0A'the referent always adheres' -Barthes=0A=0Awhat makes a photograph? =
Some of the greatest brains of the 20th century have spent their best acade=
mic years pondering. most photographers don't care (just like most people d=
on't care what academics spend their lives pondering, we just live it). we =
care only that we know it to be something worth pursuing. in the digital er=
a the question becomes further complicated, as one idea of a photograph cou=
ld mean simply an arragnement of data, pixels, that a computer processes to=
give us a final visual. it is with that in mind (as well as some help from=
a funky iOS app named decim8) that we started being interested in this que=
stion. and with that ponderance in mind that we created these pieces. are t=
hey less a "photograph" than other works of ours? does status as "photograp=
h" require a recognizability of subject? does this hold up when you know th=
at the 'manipulation' applied to these was at time much less than that appl=
ied to most published 'photography'. Speaking of the digital era, Google te=
lls us that the colloquial reference of 'tapestry' means 'an intricate comb=
ination of things'. which in combination with the words of barthes (one of =
the aforementioned brains), seems to us to be the most succint idea of the =
'photograph', or it could just be a good sentence for this show - an intric=
ate combination of things with which the referent always adheres. we're not=
 academics, sue us.
