DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:TARRAGON THEATRE PRESENTS=20

The Amorous Adventures of Anatol

BY ARTHUR SCHNITZLER
ADAPTED AND DIRECTED BY MORRIS PANYCH

Tarragon Theatre presents the Toronto premiere of The Amorous Adventures of=
Anatol, based on Austrian playwright/novelist Arthur Schnitzler=E2=80=99s =
Anatol (1893), adapted and directed by celebrated Canadian director Morris =
Panych.

It is 1900 Vienna. The young, incurably romantic =E2=80=94 and indecisively=
neurotic =E2=80=94 Anatol pursues each woman as if she is =E2=80=9Cthe one=
,=E2=80=9D without commitment or care. With Anatol=E2=80=99s eye ever-wande=
ring, his psychologist friend Max tries to counsel his incorrigible friend.=
Though Anatol demands absolute loyalty in his lovers, it is not the same =
yardstick he holds up for himself. As the narcissistic Anatol woos a succes=
sion of seven different women, we learn what Anatol knows =E2=80=93 and doe=
s not know =E2=80=93 about women, while revealing all about himself.
Mike Shara reprises the role of Anatol, whom he portrayed to critical accla=
im at the 2008 premiere of this sharp and fast-paced black comedy at the Va=
ncouver Playhouse:
=E2=80=9CMorris Panych overlays Schnitzler's fin de si=C3=A8cle sexual psyc=
hology with his own contemporary brand of absurdist comedy. Handsome, feckl=
ess, raffish Anatol, his psychologist friend Max, and the seven women he ca=
n't live with or without take us on a witty... chase around the egotism, am=
bivalence and hypocrisies of love=E2=80=A6.Mike Shara plays Anatol with a w=
inning combination of charm, conceit and confusion.=E2=80=9D=09=20
