In Individual Points of Fiction, an A Space performance and exhibition, Jun=
e 2012, ARTIFACTS, known for its site-specific performances, deepened its r=
elationship with/in space as Patterson and Raudvee addressed the divide bet=
ween, and notion of, progress as process/product. They focused on the resea=
rch component of performance and, if one can recognize artistic practice as=
performative, of studio practice. For Pentimenti, they intend to advance t=
his idea at Gallery 1313=E2=80=99s Process Gallery and focus specifically o=
n the interrelationships among image, sound, and mark making as a collabora=
tive and performative activity. =E2=80=9CPentimenti=E2=80=9D, as term, refe=
rs to multiple alternations in a painting. Traces of previous activity ling=
er; the artists changed their minds during the making. Here making is integ=
ral to the image formation =E2=80=93 it is fluid, lucent and unpredictable =
=E2=80=93 performance is painterly.=20
Cell Gallery : Shape Shifters-a series of drawings by Ella Day .I used past=
els on overlaid sheets of paper for these portraits.I went to the zoo a lot=
as a kid. I remember that the people looked like the animals they were wat=
ching.I think that is how the shape shifters started, somewhere between tho=
se memories and my idea of what a circus
might be like. I consider the majority of my work to be portraiture. Portr=
aits of people or of places. I see my subjects in a state of metamorphosis,=
alive, moving and breathing, and in a world where lines are blurred and sh=
apes shift. I draw mainly with chalk pastels. I like their contradictory =
and expressive properties.
Over the years my practice has expanded to include mixed media 3d construct=
ions, installation and photography. =20
