SUMMARY: A Matter of Marching
LOCATION:Parliament Interpretive Centre
URL:http://www.blogto.com/events/66637
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Join us for =E2=80=9CA Matter of Marching,=E2=80=9D an accessible, hands-on=
exploration of the British infantryman=E2=80=99s uniform and equipment at =
the time of the War of 1812, led by Kevin Hebib, Program Development Office=
r at Fort York National Historic Site.=20

At the outset of the War of 1812 the Americans thought the invasion of Uppe=
r Canada would meet with little resistance and would therefore be =E2=80=9C=
a mere matter of marching.=E2=80=9D=20
As it turned out, this could not have been further from the truth.
Canadian militia and inhabitants, together with First Nations warriors and =
British regulars, put their lives on the line and ultimately repelled the i=
nvaders.

The War of 1812 Bicentennial provides the perfect opportunity to re-examine=
the soldiers' experience as dictated by the constraints and burden of the =
clothing and equipment issued to him for active service.

You=E2=80=99ve seen the images of soldiers in redcoats =E2=80=93 now come g=
ain fascinating insights into how they lived, what they wore and what they =
used to defend our province.=20
