SUMMARY: Burma These Days
LOCATION:The East Gallery
URL:http://www.blogto.com/events/57369
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Despite repression and decades of isolation the Burmese art scene has flour=
ished quietly over the years. Since the opening of Burma, the international=
art world has started to take notice of the small but vibrant contemporary=
art scene in the Southeast Asian country, also known as Myanmar.
Four leading Burmese artists, all based in the capital Yangon, will present=
their latest works for the first time in Canada. Ranging from impressionis=
tic landscapes and photo-realistic waterscapes to atmospheric depictions of=
every-day life, this survey show illustrates the scope, creativity and tec=
hnical skill that the Burmese art scene has become renowned for.=20
Burma These Days is the East Gallery=E2=80=99s first exhibition in its new,=
permanent space at 334 Dundas Street West. Founded a year ago, Toronto=E2=
=80=99s newest gallery is the city=E2=80=99s only exhibition space that foc=
uses exclusively on contemporary Asian art.
