its FIFTH year for three nights of screenings and also live performances. T=
his year will again find the festival at Trash Palace Cinema (89B Niagara S=
treet. at Tecumseth, just west of Bathurst). The 8 fest is North America=E2=
=80=99s only festival devoted to all forms of small-gauge film, including S=
uper 8, 8mm, 9.5 and loops, shown in their original formats. The 8 fest sho=
wcases the 70+ history of small gauge film - from contemporary artists=E2=
=80=99 work in the form, to its wider cultural use in home movies, instruct=
ional loops and beyond.=0A=0AThis year=E2=80=99s edition of the 8 fest cons=
ists of eight programmes, one regular 8mm workshop, and one artist=E2=80=99=
s talk. The eight programmes include:=0A=0AA spotlight on Berlin-based Supe=
r 8 filmmaker Milena Gierke who will=0Abe visiting the festival courtesy of=
 The Goethe Institut Toronto and=0Awho will be presenting a FREE artist=E2=
=80=99s talk at the Goethe on Saturday=0Aafternoon January 28th at 4:00 PM =
(100 University Avenue at King).=0A=0ANotes From Nowhere: Super Winnipeg Su=
per 8 - a survey of recent Super=0A8 activity in Winnipeg curated by renown=
ed performance-art duo Shawna=0ADempsey and Lorri Millan. Artists include N=
oam Gonick, Deco Dawson,=0AHeidi Phillips, and Ed Ackerman, among others.=
=0A=0AAdventures in Animationland - a programme mixing recent animations=0A=
received by the 8 fest with commissions in collaboration with Toronto=0AAni=
mated Image Society (TAIS). Artists include Julie Voyce, Daryl=0AVocat, Tan=
ya Read, Leslie Supnet, and others.=0A=0ABush Films - a presentation by Hom=
eMovie History Project in which=0Asmall gauge film stocks are used for docu=
mentary and instructional=0Apurposes and which permit audiences to see them=
selves and their=0Arelatives and their ancestors and descendants and their =
