Jack Donohue International Classic
Canada Basketball will welcome Team Jamaica to the Mattamy Athletic Centre on August 8 and 10 for the 2013 edition of the Jack Donohue International Classic (JDIC). The two-game series will see the Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) take the court against a talented and athletic Jamaican squad.
The event – named after the Canadian coaching legend – is a Canada Basketball tradition which has seen teams from across the globe travel to Canada to take part in exhibition matches. While this international friendly will provide meaningful competition, it is also the first opportunity for Head Coach Jay Triano to introduce the team to its fans on Canadian soil.
The two games will help prepare the SMNT for this September’s FIBA America’s Championship for Men in Venezuela. Ten teams will compete for the right to represent their country at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. Canada will play in Group A with Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Brazil and their JDIC opponents – Jamaica.
