SOULSTICE Music & Poetry ft. Lillian Allen, Jahbudah & Ritallin
Cytopoetics (www.cytopoeticsevents.com) presents the third installment of its seasonal music and poetry series Soulstice. This show promotes poets who continue to break ground in both poetry and music with Lillian Allen and Greg "Ritallin" Frankson. They will be joined by the powerful Reggae band Jahbudah who will create a night to remember!
Hosted by Patrick de Belen, winner of the Up From the Roots slam team that won the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW) in October 2012.

LILLIAN ALLEN - Fresh from a successful UK and Paris tour, where she launch her new CD, ANXIETY, Lillian Allen is proving that some things just gets better with age. Performing solo or with a band, Lillian’s driving poetics and mesmerizing vocal delivery combines words, image, sound confluences, utterance and rhythmic flow to captivate audiences. Considered the godmother of dub, rap, hip-hop and spoken word poetry, Lillian who founded and established such community arts initiative as The Dub Poets Collective and Fresh Arts, is a two time Juno award winner, mentor and Professor of Creative Writing at the Ontario College of Art and Design University. JAHBUDAH’s Reggae music seeps and simmers and stirs a potent mix of message, celebration and love. The band features vocalist and bassist Winston Ho Sang who is fresh from releasing his new CD My Philosophy, and singer and guitarist Reggae Rich. Roy Garret is on drums and keyboard players David. The band lays down eclectic bass and drum driven rhythms that reflects both the roots rub-a-dub and the contemporary influences of world sounds. GREG "RITALLIN" FRANKSON is a Toronto-based writer and is one of Canada’s top spoken word artists. In 2012, Ritallin was a member of the Toronto Up From The Roots national slam champion team and runner-up at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam. Greg has been performing in schools, community settings, showcases, festivals and slams from coast to coast for nearly a decade. He is a co-founder of Capital Slam, the Ottawa Youth Poetry Slam and YorkSlam, a former National Director of Spoken Word Canada, and a driving force behind YouthCanSlam, the new national youth poetry slam festival. Greg is also an accomplished event organizer, facilitator, arts educator, musician, emcee and speaker.
