Toronto-based violinist and recent Dora Theatre award winner Eugene Draw is proud to present his latest performance "Strange Parade", featuring an eclectic mix of DJ’s, dancers, aerialists, actors, live video production coupled with Dr. Draw’s trademark high energy performance and compositions including a few new twists of classic pop songs.
He has conceived a show that would entertain and transport the audience. Its last performance was at Vancouver’s TedX last fall and in Toronto last winter 2011. With every element in synthesis, the show is paced in such away that it feels like a continuous build from beginning till the end, no breaks.
Eugene “Dr.” Draw is Canada’s biggest selling violinist. His latest CD Copper Moon will be available for the first time at this event. It’s inspired by Beethoven and by all the travelling he’s done lately. Says Eugene, “it's definitely one of the most personal albums I've conceived. I always imagined a soundtrack accompanying me on my adventures, and if I could travel back in time, Copper Moon would have been playing on repeat in my earbuds. This album projects confidence and calmness in tone; and could be easily described as melange of cinematic themes with a dramatic twist.”
Dr. Draw has a constantly evolving musical style that brings together the seemingly disparate elements of classical violin, jazz-rock fusion, folk and pop into a riveting masala that feeds the soul and invigorates audiences. Whether opening for A-list acts like Cyndi Lauper at an open air festival in the U.S., Bette Midler in San Francisco, for the Prime Minister of Singapore or creating near chaos at the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival or playing luxury brand events like Chloé, Hermès and Dom Pérignon; Dr. Draw inspires kudos wherever he plays. Lately, his reputation is growing eastward. Performances have included playing in Singapore and a spate of Louis Vuitton events in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and South Korea.
His CDs are huge Nielson SoundScan successes including his hit 2009 release ‘Distinctively Unclassified’ becoming one of the biggest selling classical-pop fusion CDs on the Nielson SoundScan Charts hitting top ten in Toronto and several other major cities across Canada. He made indie music history in Toronto in 2007 as all three of his albums charted on the official Top 30 Nielsen Soundscan sales chart on August 9, 2007. His 5th CD Copper Moon will be exclusively available at this show and then publically as a digital download on itunes in March.
