The exhibition runs through to April 03, 2013.
Using poetic gestures and humour to explore feelings of isolation and loneliness, Vaguely Reassuring exists as part of a larger series that mimics the trite qualities of celebratory banners. A play on the types of sentiments normally expressed by these banners, the words “vaguely reassuring” are meant to simultaneously describe and offer a half-hearted attempt at positive reinforcement.
Amber Landgraff uses multiples, text and performance to examine issues of miscommunication, sentimentality, vulnerability and nostalgia. She has offered samples of breakups in public spaces, sold and bartered spontaneous love poems, and used signage to display personal confessions in public locations. She lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.
