The Radiohead Jazz Project 3
The Toronto Jazz Orchestra and Idioteque, Toronto’s top Radiohead tribute band, are pleased to announce the Radiohead Jazz Project III, Monday February 18, starting at 8:30 pm. The evening will feature one set by the Toronto Jazz Orchestra with guest vocalist Alex Samaras, followed by an extended set by Idioteque.
The February 18th performance will be the third installment of the Radiohead Jazz Project, and the third time the two ensembles have worked together. The two previous installments – presented in December, 2011 and then July, 2012 as part of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival – have been great successes, with standing-room-only crowds, enthusiastic sing-alongs and demands for encores.
The evening begins at 8:30 pm with the Toronto Jazz Orchestra. About half of the arrangements to be performed on the program were co-commissioned by the Frankfurt Radio Bigband and the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music (Wisconsin), and have been created by acclaimed writers such as Sherisse Rogers, Fred Sturm, Bob Washut and and Dan Cavanagh. The other half of the tunes have been created specifically for this project by local arrangers Chris Hunt, Christian Overton, Mike Downes, Tara Davidson and Josh Grossman. The 17-piece ensemble will be enhanced by vocal heavyweight Alex Samaras; Ian Sinclair will play piano as the ensemble’s usual pianist, Carissa Neufeld, plays vibraphone.
At 10:30 pm Radiohead tribute band Idioteque takes to the stage for an extended set of note-for-note reproductions of songs taken from Radiohead’s eight studio albums. Featuring some of Toronto’s top emerging jazz talent, the band performs with impressive artistry and technical mastery. Idioteque is Don Scott (vocals, guitar), Jessica Stuart (guitar, vocals), Harley Card (guitar), Teri Parker (keyboards), Liam Smith (bass) and Ernesto Cervini (drums, vocals, and soon-to-be father).
