Opening Reception: Deception featuring work by Christie Lau

Christie Lau's whimsical illustrations entwine diverse themes surrounding biology and adaptive survival with threads of myth and ancient fairytale. She employs an impressive range of techniques – meticulous Old Master pen and nib drawings, woodblock printing, silkscreen, and laser-etched stamps – to achieve work that is both beautiful and conceptually relevant.

In her latest work from the “Deception Series”, Lau explores human methods of survival and their parallels in the animal kingdom. Tales of trickery and deceit reverberate throughout centuries of lore, and are also an ongoing biological reality within the animal kingdom. Creatures such as the Cowbird and the orchid rely upon deception to survive.
