Art Opening: Expressions of the Spirit

Origo Books Gallery is proud to showcase a selection of paintings by local visual artists TREVA MICHELLE and LINDA DERAMAIX.

Abstraction is one of the purest art forms for TREVA, one that allows the artist to express and emote free of academic restraints or social constructs. She calls upon the help of a plethora of vibrant colours to run through her brushes, hands and any tools she can find in order to create emotionally powerful pieces, each with their own identity, personality and soul. Each of her pieces is meant to inspire and evoke emotions very specific to the viewer, placing the meaning on the individual reaction instead on the piece itself. Moreover, she is further inspired by the responses to her work, congealing the viewers' experiences into new pieces.

LINDA's paintings relate to an exploration of the human soul. Often amazed at how people are changed and shaped by their experience, she explores the inner core of the individual (the soul) and the processes of personal transformation. Does each person have a soul? What would it look like if it were represented visually? Are protectors and angels watching out for us? How the strength of a person’s authentic core can be conveyed? LINDA opts to meld the human form with the natural world in her quest to represent the human and the divine, particularly influenced by the metamorphosis process of the insect world, as a testimony to the beauty of the human spirit, regardless of circumstance.
