Urban T. Ziegler, M.Sc., P.Eng., Chief Engineer, RETScreen International, Natural Resources Canada, is an expert in district energy systems design and implementation. A graduate of Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, Urban Ziegler has specialized training in the area of district energy systems combined with extensive hands-on experience.
Sustainable community design is increasingly turning to district energy systems that are supplemented with renewable energy sources as a means of reducing operating costs and carbon footprint. A large number of new communities and campuses across Canada are exploring the possibilities of district energy systems and the fundamental considerations impacting building and urban design will be explored in his lecture. Urban Ziegler will also share his insights regarding the challenges and opportunities associated with district energy systems in the Canadian context.
This lecture is part of the Building, Ecology, Science, and Technology (B.E.S.T.) Lecture Series.
Equivalent to 2 Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) structured learning hours.
