Organic: The Way Forward

The Toronto Chapter of Canadian Organic Growers in association with The Big Carrot is presenting a one-day organic consumer conference. Keynote speakers are Gilles-Eric Seralini, who recently led a tream of researchers in a two-year study of the effects of feeding GM corn and glyphosate formulations to rats, which showed tumours and other adverse health effects and raised concern about the safety of the genetic engineering of food; and Deborah Koons Garcia, a fiction, educational and documentary film maker, who focuses on agriculture and the food system. Her film The Future of Food continues to play widely all over the world, and she has recently completed a new film, Symphony of the Soil, which will be screened separately the Friday evening before the conference, February 15. Hear about GMOs the smoking gun, the real story behind chicken and egg production, a first-hand account of organic food production in China, a pediatrician speaks out, what are the meals that heal, the organic farmer's perspective, what is the future of organic, and more. Includes an organic lunch. Cost: $65 (after Feb. 5, $85)
