Creative Destruction - paintings by Stev'nn Hall

Nov 22 - Dec 13, 2012. Reception Nov 23, 6-9 pm. The title of Stev'nn Hall's latest solo show CREATIVE DESTRUCTION describes his expansive photo-based paintings. The paintings are focused on water (a waterfall, lake, river or pond) as a main component of his landscapes. The title reflects the ever-changing characteristic of natural bodies of water. They are always flowing, eroding and changing - destroying the exact shape of the waterfall or shoreline, that existed only a moment ago. They are impermanent. Each day the pond reflects a new sky - the memory of yesterday gone. The title also embraces his abstract cloud explosions or cloud flowers as they are in flux - about to unfold into something else. CREATIVE DESTRUCTION is also a literal metaphor for his process as an artist - creating the artwork by "destroying" it. Stev’nn will distress the photographs with sand paper, water, or paint, giving them new form and life.
