Dharma Dads

Join us for an evening discussion with Yogi Dads on the joys, difficulties, triumphs, and inequalities of pregnancy, birth, and raising kids.
Four prominent Yoga teachers will join together in a discussion about the birthing process, being fathers, and maintaining a practice. Where do they get support? Where don’t they? How do they love, and how do they fail? What do they need from their community and families to thrive as Dads?
In this intimate Garden Talk with Matthew Remski, Scott Davis, Michael Stone, and Ron Reid, moderated by Carina Löf, we will delve deep into fatherhood through candid conversation. If you’re a newbie or longtime Dad, someone considering fatherhood or non-gestational parenthood, a mother, doula, midwife, teacher, daycare worker, or anyone involved with fathers, please join us.
Date: Sunday, November 25
Time: 7:00pm
Cost: $5 for members and $10 for non-members
Matthew Remski has been practicing and teaching meditation and yoga for a decade, and practices Ayurvedic medicine from home, and at the Octopus Garden clinic space. He has been a step-father for 18 years, and is now the father of Jacob Cale Remski, born on Oct 20. He lives with his partner Alix Bemrose.
Shôken Michael Stone is a renowned Yoga and Buddhist teacher, psychotherapist, and author. He is the Director of Centre of Gravity, a
thriving community of yoga and Buddhist practitioners integrating deep practice and modern urban life. He teaches internationally and is a father of a nine year old and is expecting another baby this winter. His most recent book is Awake in the World: Yoga & Buddhist Teaching
for Living an Engaged Life.
Scott Davis has been teaching yoga for over fifteen years and is a founder and co-director of Octopus Garden Holistic Yoga Centre. He holds several specialized workshops and international retreats every year in addition to operating a clinical practice in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. As a doctor of oriental medicine he approaches yoga as an evolving form, health maintenance system, and as a tool to support the process of being fully alive to the potential of the human body, intellect and spirit. Scott credits yoga for helping to unfold all the blessings in his life including his wife Christine and their three wonderful children, Ruby, Theo, and Niko.
Ron Reid has been practicing yoga for thirty years and teaching since 1988. In 1996, after practicing Ashtanga yoga for two years, he travelled to India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Ron seeks to make the practice of yoga interesting and enjoyable and sees it as being integral to a state of well-being, approaching teaching in an inspired, informed, and non-dogmatic way. He is the co-founder of Downward Dog in Toronto and is the father of an adult son.
Garden Talks, presented by leading figures in the yoga, meditation, and holistic health communities, promise to engage and inspire. Join us one evening a month, usually a Saturday, occasionally a Sunday, for a thought provoking presentation.
