3D Printing Workshop

The next evolution of printing technology is now upon us as 3D printers are now a reality. Some are calling it the "second industrial revolution" and a potentially "disruptive technology" that can pose a serious challenge to manufacturing industries worldwide. What does this mean for the average consumer though?

3D printing represents the cutting edge of consumer available D.I.Y. technology with a relatively small knowledge of electronics and hardware necessary. This technology allows you to prototype any design and spark a revolution that will shake the manufacturing industry to the core.

What can you print in 3D? How about guitars, chocolate and coat hangers to start. Did you break a part of that really expensive equipment? How about printing a new part instead of buying an entire replacement? Or instead of buying toys for your child you can design and print them yourselves rather than have them shipped from across the world?

Please join the Institute for a Resource-Based Economy as we host a workshop that introduces and deconstructs the 3D printer (open-source RepRap Prusa Mendel), explores it’s implications, and shines light on the field of local and resilient manufacturing.
