Vodka Bar & Cold War menu designed Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas
Film screening 7:03PM – 4AM
Alexander Kluge's News From Ideological Antiquity

This Nuit Blanche, join us for the launch of FUSE’s fall edition at 401 Richmond. We're presenting a nine-hour screening of "News from Ideological Antiquity. Marx — Eisenstein — Das Kapital," renowned German director Alexander Kluge's quirky polyphonic rendition of Karl Marx’s classic treatise on political economy. The film, which is featured in our fall issue, is presented with our partners Goethe-Institut Toronto, CARFAC Ontario, and Mayworks Festival. As far as we know, the film has only been screened twice in North America: New York (2011) and Montreal (2011). The official reception is from 7–9PM, with vodka bar and cold war menu by Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas. And don't worry, the film is broken down into sections so you can easily come and go without gravely misunderstanding the crisis of capitalism!

FUSE’s fall issue spotlights contemporary art and cultural production from the Baltic region, with a particular focus on Lithuania, and is the latest addition to our ongoing States of Postcoloniality series. The withdrawal of Soviet occupation, the renewed independence of the Baltic states, and subsequent, ongoing privatization are taken as the context for contemporary cultures of resistance.

In this issue, FUSE turns to the performative politics of contemporary artists to piece together a critical history of the Baltic states. Readers will find interviews with Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė of Lithuania’s Žeimiai Manor House and artist team Gediminas and Nomeda Urbonas; curator Barbara Clausen and artist Michael Blum on News From Ideological Antiquity; and artist’s projects by Johanna Sophie Santos Bassetti and Jurij Dobriakov.

Readers can pick up the latest issue of FUSE after 29 September on newsstands and bookstores across Canada and at select international locations; full list of retailers at fusemagazine.org/retailers.
