Ryerson Student Lecture Series presents Helena Reckitt

The Kodak Lecture Series in participation with Ryerson's Student Lecture Series is pleased to present London-based curator Helena Reckitt. Please join us for our first lecture of our 2012-13 season! This event, as all lectures are in the series, is free and open to the public.
Helena Reckitt is a curator and critic based in London, UK, and Senior Lecturer in Curating at Goldsmiths, University of London. Senior Curator of Programmes at Toronto’s the Power Plant from 2006 – 2010, her previous positions include Senior Director of Exhibitions and Education at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, GA, Head of Talks at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, and Associate Commissioning Editor for Film and Performance Studies at Routledge, London. Reckitt has curated and co-curated exhibitions with artists including Yael Bartana, Keren Cytter, Harrell Fletcher, Joachim Koester, Hew Locke, Ryan Trecartin, Paul Shambroom, and Carey Young. Her group exhibitions have explored inter-species relations (‘Adaptation’, 2010), memory and re-enactment (‘Not Quite How I Remember It’, 2008), corporate and academic conduct (‘What Business Are You In?’, 2005) and the awkward and in-between (‘Found Wanting’, 2000). Reckitt is on the editorial board of the Toronto-based Journal for Curatorial Studies, for which she is editing a forthcoming special issue on ‘Curatorial Knowledge/Curatorial Ignorance’. She is co-editor of Acting on AIDS: Sex Drugs and Politics (Serpent’s Tail, 1997) and editor of the Phaidon Press sourcebook Art and Feminism, which has been in print for over a decade and been translated in abbreviated form into French, Japanese and Spanish. Her writing has appeared in publications including C magazine, n.paradoxa, the Times Higher Education Supplement and The Guardian. In 2012 she is curating Zone C: ‘Once More With Feeling’, with artists including Maeve Brennan/Ruth Ewan, Trisha Brown Dance Company, Simon Denny/Yngve Holen, Dave Dyment, Hadley+Maxwell, Oliver Husain, Katie Patterson, Susan Stenger and JD Walsh. Reckitt is the curator of 'Zone C' of Scotiabank's Nuit Blanche 2012.
