Rutherford Movement Exchange Presents "Ascension"

RUTHERFORD MOVEMENT EXCHANGE TO RISE TO THE TOP WITH INAUGURAL DANCE PERFORMANCE

“Ascension” to Premier September 29 and 30 at the
Al Green Theatre in Toronto

TORONTO – September 17, 2012 – A man loses his long battle with drug addiction; a woman struggles each day to maintain a life ruled by disease; and a friend gives all of herself to help someone in need.

These stories of loss, struggle and selflessness can be shared without words – they can be shared through the art of dance. Collectively as a group of young artists, “Ascension” – the inaugural performance from Toronto-based dance company, Rutherford Movement Exchange – invites audiences on a journey of rising to a higher level. As told through several top Canadian contemporary dancers, “Ascension” explores the act of finding the power, inspiration and courage to start the climb from rock bottom.

“The show’s inspiration stems from many people’s different life experiences. Dancers have the ability to communicate through movement and raw emotion, which allows them to help by sharing the stories of people who may not be able to share their own,” says company director and choreographer, Stephanie Rutherford.

This inspirational and innovative contemporary dance performance will take the stage live during three performances over the weekend of September 29 (8:00 p.m.) and September 30 (2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.) at the Al Green Theatre in Toronto, Ontario.

The purpose of Rutherford’s “Ascension” is not only to inspire and engage audience members, but to also give back to the community. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Bruce Oake Memorial Fund and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
