Doors open at 8pm and admission is only $5 at the door with all proceeds from ticket sales going back to the community through the Artists’ Health Centre Foundation.
About the Bands
Based out of Toronto, Canada, Odonis Odonis is a three-piece industrial surf-gaze outfit fronted by Dean Tzenos and backed by Jarod Gibson (Thighs) and Denholm Whale (Cartoons). Wrapping every song with deep sea reverb and cold fingertips, Odonis Odonis distills the vitals of pop and experimentation.Molded at a young age by the sounds of indie, new wave and industrial mix-tapes passed on by Dean’s elder sisters, Odonis Odonis harkens to The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pixies, Big Black and The Cure. Like a good post-modernist, however, these influences merely colour, but do not define Odonis Odonis. In May 2011, Odonis Odonis issued its first release, the limited edition Busted Lip/Handle Bars 7” on We Are Busy Bodies; followed by a split 12″ with Lotus Plaza (Deerhunter’s Lockett Pundt) on Palmist. Signing with FatCat in June 2011, Odonis Odonis has a new platform for its staggering catalogue of material including the recently released full-length, Hollandaze(November 2011) and the forthcoming Soft Boiled Hard Boiled (Fall 2012). From melodic and ethereal to brash and relentless, OdonisOdonis is the metaphysical equivalent of your favourite mixtape.
Toronto noise rock duo Indian Handcraftssigned with U.S. label Sargent House to deliver the follow-up to their self-titled 2011 debut. The upcoming record called Civil Disobedience for Losers will be released on October 30th 2012. This 11-song sophomore set was recorded in Los Angeles last March with Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business, Red Sparowes). The twosome Allen and drummer-vocalist Brandyn James Aikins laid down the bulk of the work themselves, but Melvinsskinpounders Dale Crover and Coady Willis stop by to deliver rounds of military snare on opener “Bruce Lee.”
Young Mother is “four fundamental forces of nature” and began as a noisy, improvisational free jazz collective with a mix of post punk. Now Magazine describes Young Mother’s full-length LP as “the young locals have tightened their sound into an insistent machine of ominous textures and barely resolved tension. Nodding to space and Krautrock bands like Can and Neu!, they weave nimble guitar licks and saxophone bleats with tightly wound bass and drum rhythms. The structures often resemble electronic music more than rock, though none of the instrumentation is digital.” Come experience this for yourself.
