Voices of Dissent: The State of Labor, Past and Present

Join us for an evening of talks and performances to celebrate the launch of the new "Voice of Industry" website, featuring talks by Jim Stanford and others, and performances by various musicians and actors.
~
The Voice of Industry was an American labour newspaper that ran from 1845-1848, published by the first union of working women in the United States. In its pages, they published critical pieces about a range of social issues, which remain as powerful and relevant today as they were over a hundred years ago.
The paper was recently recovered in its entirety and will be made available online in September, making their sentiments, criticism and moral vision accessible to a broader audience for the first time.  Celebrating the release of this material, the evening will feature talks by Jim Stanford, Canada's foremost labour economist, and others, about historical and current labour issues. Various musicians and actors will also be performing labor songs and material from the Voice.
