(lately) despite what I know I still feel the same

I have a new installation up NOW in the window at Magic Pony, 24 hour street view access! There is no opening or closing party... if you are in the hood, or just tooting around, take a gander!

A bit of info about the piece/my practice:

"(lately) despite what I know I still feel the same" is the fifth window installation in an ongoing series which began in 2010. For this piece I have combined sculptures (including "NO GOOD / BYE" & "Meet Me There (reality check #1)"), objects (plastic bags from a Sunday market in Paris), and other materials (mirrored vinyl, gold chain) alongside two repeated elements. These two elements - pieces of MDF with circles cut from them, thread hanging accordingly and the results of removing polka-dots from a patterned fabric - focus on circular motifs, perhaps mostly for their reference to cycles, without beginning or end. Here they are illustrated through negative spaces, the shape being physically removed from material. Holes. Cavities.

My sculpture and installation practice uses basic shapes, geometries and colour to abstract personal 'realities' into formulaic visuals. Interested in current states of reality and the psychological relationship we have with ourselves, our surroundings, objects and other people, an accumulation of found, cheap, and leftover materials are used in the creation of work.

A bit of info about those:

My site-specific installations are dismantled (and often destroyed) after their exhibition run and/or documentation is complete. The salvageable elements are stored within a growing database of 'props' which may be shown as independent entities and/or incorporated in future installations. The lives of these things are not fixed as singular objects, but rather revisited and reworked depending on the needs of any given piece. (reality check) is a new avenue in my practice that uses documentation photographs of sculptures and installations as digital material (also a growing database). Printing processes are employed to create objects which renegotiate the original physicality of these former works. These two limited edition prints serve as alternate realities of two installations done in the studio during a residency I did at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island earlier this year.
